Trip to Baton Rouge

This post is to document my trip to Baton Rouge, Louisiana. It was a short two day business trip. I was fortunate enough to have a room at the Hilton that overlooked the mighty Mississippi River.

There were numerous tug boats ferrying cargo up and down the river.

The classic MS River Bridge is shown in this picture.  This is the bridges that I remember as a child.  All of them spanning the Mississippi River looked like this one.

I could not resist taking pictures of the curtains in my room.  Would love to have the fabric for a quilt back.

Also the tile in the bathroom is an inspiration for a future hexagon quilt.

Have a great week and enjoy every day.

Weekend Sewing

In addition to sewing the third block in the Beginner's Quilt Along, I also pulled out my scissors and patterns and made my granddaught a little summer top.  I had to guess on the size, so I hope it fits her, if anything it will be too big.  I hope that she loves it.

I have also pulled fabric for the next quilt that I will be making. It will be for her also.  Since she and her brother has grown so much since I made them a quilt, it is time to make a bigger one for each of them.  Don't you just love the fun fabric?  I will add other colors, but this is a start.

Happy Sewing,

Sandra

Beginners Quilt Along Block 3 - Time for Ice Cream

The third block in the Beginner's Quilt Along was completed this afternoon.  I chose fabric that reminded me a strawberry and vanilla swirl ice cream.

I really am enjoying going back to the basics and sewing these blocks.  After our quilt show I was almost burned out on quilting because of the deadline I had to complete the quilts that I wanted in the show.  Now I am back on track to sew and enjoy it.

Below are pictures of the three blocks completed so far.  It's not too late to join in the fun.

Beginner's Quilt Along Blocks 1 and 2

While I cannot label myself as a beginning quilter, I thought it might be fun to join in the Beginner's Quilt Along and just get back to the basics.  I completed Blocks 1 and 2 which are shown below.  The next block be published tomorrow on the Quilter's Gallery blog.  Follow this link to read about the first two blocks and the winner of the first prizes.

I am using Sunkissed by Sweetwater for Moda.  I really love the fabric in this bundle, so I decided to use the leftovers from the other quilt blocks, made for a previous quilt-along, to make the blocks in this one.

Block 1 - Play a Game of Hopscotch

Block 2 - Peek Over the Fence

Check back soon to see my progress.

My Flowers are Blooming

I have had these daylillies for six years, and this is the first time they have bloomed. Just had to share!

They are called "doubles".  They are one of my favorite flowers.

These flowers survived the winter and continue to grow and bloom their little hearts out.

My yellow, single daylillies, also bloomed this year.  They bloom early, almost the first flowers of spring.

Sand Stitchers Quilt Show Finale

The 2012 Sand Stitchers Quilt Show was a great success.  The stats will be reported on at the next meeting, but the crowd was large and very impressed with the eighty three quilts that were displayed.  The pictures below are a sampling of those quilts.  The ones shown here are in no particular order, just the ones that the pictures that I took came out the best.  The winners will be announced on Thursday, June 7.  I will do an update at that time.

Will post the winners at a later date.  Hope I have pictures of all of them.

Beautiful Alaska

My trip to Juneau, Alaska was for business.  It was cold and rainy all week, except for one small window of time.  Around six o'clock p.m. the sun came out and everything came alive with beauty.  Since it did not get dark until almost 10 p.m., I took a drive and captured these beautiful scenes.

Kensie Turns One!

It has been almost a month since I posted. After leaving Savannah, I took a couple days of vacation in Columbia SC. My youngest granddaughter was turning one and I wanted to be there. Her party was a fun one. Some pictures will show you what a great party she had. The theme was poka dots.
