Let Us Remember....

A little history ...

Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces.   Formerly known as Decoration Day, it originated after the Civil War to commemorate the Confederate and Union soldiers who died in the Civil War. By the 20th century, Memorial Day had been extended to honor all Americans who have died while in the military service.

Many volunteers place an American flag on each grave in national cemeteries, such as the one near me, The Biloxi National Cemetery.

These scenes were very touching.  Let us always remembering all the blood that has been shed to keep this nation free.

May these soldiers rest in peace.

Just Needles May Meeting

About ten of the Just Needles Guild of Pascagoula meet at the Tiki Restaurant for dinner and exchange of pot holders made by members. There were some awesome handcrafted pot holders.
The food was delicious, especially the Lemon Cloud Pie.  Once we tasted it we forgot to get a picture.

This was the last meeting prior to summer.  We will not meet again until September but we will all be busy making pillowcases for the local shelter.  The pillowcases and fleece blankets made earlier will be delivered in the fall.

Have a great week.

River City Quilters Quilt Show

The River City Quilters of Moss Point MS put on a quilt show every year on the first Saturday of May.  The twelve members of this group are very prolific quilters.  This year these twelve members submitted 69 quilts for the show.  Everyone of the quilts was made between May of last year and this year's show.

The show is always outside the library, weather permitting.  It was heartwarming to see all of those quilts blowing in the wind.

The pictures below capture some of the quilts in this year's show.

Marietta leads this group and teaches many of the patterns.
This was my favorite.  I love the symbolism of the heart with the patriotic fabric.

It was a lovely day for a quilt show.
