Doll Clothes

For the past several weeks two of my good friends and I have been getting together and making doll clothes for our granddaughters' American Girl dolls.  Since this is my first time making these small clothes I have learned a lot.  Patience is a necessity!!  Some of the clothes were group projects but some I actually made all by myself.  I can hardly wait until Christmas to see the look on DG1's face when she sees the clothes.

I also made three pairs of shoes and a PJ top.  Will have to add pictures of those later.  I hope to get pictures of the clothes on the doll.

Celtic Soltice - Week Three of the 2013 Bonnie Hunter Mystery

Celtic Solstice - Part III

I have not made much progress on my Celtic Solstice Mystery this week.  Did get some half-square triangles made and a  few pinwheels.  I spent most of my time making doll clothes for my granddaughter's Christmas present.

I made my half-square triangles this way:  Sewed around all four sides of a 3.25 inch block, then cut diagonally twice.  It goes very fast when you are making four at a time.

A few more to go but will probably have to catch up after the holidays.

Part 2 of Bonnie Hunter's 2013 Mystery - Celtic Solstice

Celtic Solstice Part 2

Part Two of Celtic Solstice went public on Friday morning.  I did not get a chance to work on it until Sunday.  There are 288 - 3.5 inch Chevron blocks to make for this part.  I got every thing cut out (488 green 2 x 3.5 inch rectangles; 488 yellow 2 inch squares; and 488 neutral 2 inch squares) and began sewing on the chevrons.  The colors are playing nicely together.

I am still working on Part One but am sewing it as a "leader and ender" project as I sew the chevrons together.

I know I will not be the first to finish this mystery but I will keep plugging along.

Happy Sewing and Quilting,

Sandra

Reading Fair at Local School

On Friday I had the privilege of serving as one of the judges for Reading Fair for seventh and eight grades.  It was rewarding to see so many kids reading books and preparing a exhibit to depict what they had read.  The following is some of the pictures of those that won.

This was my favorite.
It was a fun three hours of reading what was on the exhibit and discussing it with the other judge.  The school librarian rewarded us with lunch and a goodie bag.

Sand Stitchers 2013 Christmas Party

The 2013 Christmas Party for the Sand Stitchers Quilt Guild was held in the home of our President, Teresa.

Each of us brought a gift for the name we had drawn at the November meeting.  We were also asked to make a stocking for the name we drew and to make another one as a hostess gift for Teresa.  She was not aware that we were going to do this.  She was thrilled with all of the pretty stockings that she received.  We also were given a fat quarter of focus fabric, compliments of Cynthia, to make a block for the annual Christmas Block Raffle.  There were over 30 blocks so two people walked away with the blocks.

Champagne punch and hot apple cider was served.

Gifts under the tree.

The food was delicious and a good time was had by all.

Stocking that I made for Teresa.

Stocking that I made for Judy.

Stocking that I received; very pretty

We will see each other in January 2014.  Merry Christmas to all members of the Guild.

Just Needles Art and Fiber Guild - Christmas Party 2013

Presley's Landing was the place where the Just Needles Guild held their 2013 Christmas party.  We had BBQ Chicken, BBQ Pork Nachos, BBQ Pizza and Chocolate Pie and Peach Cobbler for dessert.

After dinner we played Dirty Santa and exchanged gifts by the fireplace.

Attendees with their gift that they ended up with.

This table runner was made by me for the gift exchange.

The food was delicious and the games was lots of fun.

Cobble Court Quilters Retreat 2013

Cobble Court Quilters Retreat IV

The Cobble Court Quilters met for their annual retreat near Letchfield CT the first week of October this year.  My computer has been in the shop and this is the first chance I have had to share photos from that fun-filled weekend.

Sandra J, Lillian and I meet up at the Hartford airport and made our way to Camp Washington on Friday, October 4.

That night we had show and tell.  The pictures are only some of the fabulous items that were made by our group.

We each brought two sets of 2.5 inch strips and exchanged them to use in a Jelly Roll Quilt Race on Saturday.

Saturday night we had our infamous "Fat Quarter Game" as in Dirty Santa Game.  Among the favorite was a large shoe and a frog which, like all the gifts, were stuffed with a fat quarter.

Sunday we drew for the Block Exchange.  Each of us made one or more blocks.  This year's theme was log cabin with fall colors.

We had enough blocks to have two winners this year.

We had great fun, great food and best of all, great friendship.

All are already looking forward to the next retreat in 2014.

Here's to great friends..........
