Beautiful Alaska

My trip to Juneau, Alaska was for business.  It was cold and rainy all week, except for one small window of time.  Around six o'clock p.m. the sun came out and everything came alive with beauty.  Since it did not get dark until almost 10 p.m., I took a drive and captured these beautiful scenes.

Kensie Turns One!

It has been almost a month since I posted. After leaving Savannah, I took a couple days of vacation in Columbia SC. My youngest granddaughter was turning one and I wanted to be there. Her party was a fun one. Some pictures will show you what a great party she had. The theme was poka dots.

Savannah GA

I am Savannah this week at the Gulf and South Atlantic Shellfish Conference.  Yesterday was my day to present a talk.  I am relieved that this is behind me and I can enjoy the remainder of my stay here in this very historic town.

The meeting ended at 12:00 noon and I was able to spend some time walking around the downtown area. 

During my time here I had the opportunity to take a Paula Deen tour which ended with a meal, in a private dining room, with entertainment.  Paula was in town signing her new cookbook, but the line was too long, I had to get back to the Conference.  A friend's wife stood in line and got several books signed.

Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks, Vol 5

Today is the day that the latest Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks (Vol 5)  goes on sale.  I am celebrating because I have a quilt in the newest edition, under the Tester's Gallery.  My quilt is the first one, Ginger and Fred Visit the Farm. 

I was a tester for this particular publication and was invited to make a quilt with one or more of the blocks being tested. 

I do not have a picture of the quilt but I did take a picture of it in the magazine.

Surprise In the Mail

Today when I got home from work the postman had left me a box on my doorstep.  I couldn't imagine what it could be coming from upstate New York.  I opened the box and there was a card and a beautiful quilt from my Cobble Court sisters! 


It is beautiful - I love the colors, and look at that border!  Just beautiful. 

Thank you all so much, I will cherish it forever!

Quiltmaker - May/June 2012 Edition

Last night I sat down to look at the new Quiltmaker magazine that had been delivered.  As I looked though it, much to my delight and surprise I found two familiar faces.  The first one I saw was Judy Laquidara of Patchworktimes, the lady that put together the retreat that Pam and I attended in February.  Star Gazing is the name of the quilt and it is beautiful.  All of my favorite colors are in that quilt.

I continued to turn the pages and what did I see next??  Yes, a quilt by Marie, as in Marie Bostwick of Cobble Court Quilt fame.   And look at its name!!

Love the quilt and love the fabric.  You have to go out and get a copy if you do not have a subscription.

Marie has a new book, Ties that Bind, that continues the Cobble Court Quilt series. 

Go get a copy of this magazine if you are not a subscriber.  It has a wealth of information and quilts that you will love.

Sand Stitchers Quilt Guild Opportunity Quilt

I wanted to share the quilt that the Sand Stitchers Quilt guild has completed for their May 19, 2012 Biennial Quilt Show.  The theme of the show is "Gulf of Mexico - Our Home, Our Heritage."  Tickets are being sold and will continue until the day of the show.  Everyone did an outstanding job on this quilt.  Jere designed the quilt and Cynthia quilted it for us.  Below are a couple of close-up shots of individual blocks.

The applique was so perfect.  It looks like a real blue crab.

In addition to themed quilts, there will also be a President's choice - Modern Quilts.  The show will also feature a Boutique of handicrafts made by the members.  If you are in the area, plan to attend.
