Accuquilt GO! Quilt Along Completion and End of Ugly Fabric Challenge

Well guys, I did not win anything in the Accuquilt GO! Quilt-A-Long, but my dear friend, Sue from NJ, won first prize - an Accuquilt GO! Die.  It was great to have her win.  Her quilt top was beautiful.

The Ugly Fabric Challenge has also come to an end.  There were sixteen projects entered.  We each get 3 votes.  The top three vote getters (is that a word?) will win fat quarters.  Here is the link to see all the projects:  http://www.flickr.com/groups/1721001@N21/ .   All of the projects were very creative, especially with so little fabric.  We should know the winners by Monday.

I have resolved not to take on any new projects, swaps, contests, etc. this summer.  I need to get into my pile of UFOs and whittle them down.

One week until family vacation.  I am so ready for 7 days of mindless leisure.

AccuQuilt GO! Quilt-Along Top Completed

As stated in my last post, I have been staying up late this past week trying to catch up on several projects that have a June 15 deadline.  One of these is the AccuQuilt GO! Quilt-Along over at Ebony Love's blog.  The following blocks had to be completed before I put the top together.

Block 6 - Basket

Block 5 - LeMoyne Star Paper pieced

I substituted the LeMoyne Star for the Blazing Star AccuQuilt Die.  The blocks turned out better than I had expected.  I also had to make a few checkerboard blocks to complete the series.

And here it is!!  The completed top.  I have uploaded it to flickr as required, so I met the deadline.  Yeah!!

That leaves my Ugly Fabric Challenge to finish and I will be caught up for now.  I should be able to complete it tonight and send a picture to my friend, Rennie, in time to meet the deadline.  I cannot show you a picture until the contest is over.

I am traveling for business this week.  When I get back I have one more project to complete before the end of June then its off to Myrtle Beach SC for a family vacation.

Cupcakes and a Good Book

The monthly cupcake swap continues over at The Scratching Post.  Each month participants send cupcakes to those having a birthday.  These are the June cupcakes that I sent out this week.  Don't they look delicious!!

On Monday of last week I received my copy of Marie Bostwick's latest novel, Threading the Needle.  It is her latest novel in the Cobbled Court series.  The other three novels are A Single Thread, A Thread of Truth, and A Thread So Thin.  These novels center around life in a little Connecticut town.  The ladies are connected by their love of quilting and sisterhood.  You can find out more about Marie and her books by visiting her blog at Mariebostwick.com.

My eyes are bloodshot from staying up late all week to read Marie's book and to work on the Ugly Fabric Challenge as well as the AccuQuilt GO! top.

Road To California Blocks

These are the blocks that I received from the "Road To California" block swap with the Threads of Friendship yahoo group.  The blocks were scrappy and should make a pretty scrappy quilt.  I have other scrappy blocks that I will combine with these when I put a top together.

Ugly Fabric Challenge

I spent most of my day working on a project for an "Ugly Fabric Challenge" being lead by one of my quilting buddies - Ms Rennie.  Each participant is taking the so-called ugly fabric and using it to make anything we want as long as we use all the fabric that was sent to us.  This is what the fabric looks like.
I don't think the fabric is that ugly.  It has several colors that I have incorporated into my project.  Can't show you anything yet.  We have until June 15 to send a picture of the completed project; then all the participants will vote on their favorite.  The winner will receive a bundle of fat quarters.  The hardest part is deciding what to make and then to make it using the fat eight of fabric.  Of course, in the middle of sewing today, I have to drive to Janet's Quilting Bee and get more of one of the colors I was using.  I was short the equivalent of 9 square inches!!  Tomorrow I will sandwich the layers and attempt to quilt the little sucker!!
Check out Rennie's comments on the challenge and see a larger piece of the fabric over on A Quilt Complex.  She was a block tester for Quiltmaker's 100 Block Volume 3 edition.

I Won!!

Remember the Bog Hop and Give-Away of Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks, Volume 3?

While I was in SC I received an email from Barbara Groves of Me and My Sister Designs.

Hi Sandra!
You are the lucky winner of a magazine!!!
Just give me your shipping address and I will forward it on to Quiltmaker and have them ship it to you!
Thanks and Congratulations!
Barb

I promptly sent her my address and a couple days after my return home I got this in the mail.

This volume has great blocks.  I hope to try some of them out this summer.  Thanks Barbara for the give-a-way.  I will enjoy using this.  Hop over to  Me and My Sister Designs and take a look at what they have.
