Crumb Along #3 - Block 2

There is a lot piling up on my plate this week, but I wanted to try to make a couple of more blocks in the Crumb Along sponsored by Jo over at Jo's Country Junction.  Well, I made several flying geese blocks and put them together to make the center star.  When I started adding more crumbs to make it around 7 inches, I realized that I had the geese flying backwards!!  Rather than rip, rip, rip, I left them like they are and completed them.  They do not look like Jo's stars, but maybe I can find a place for them in the quilt.

Go ahead and laugh.........I have been laughing at myself!!

There is also a heart block, but I did not have time to tackle that one tonight.

Until later............

  1. Dont feel bad Sandra - I did the exact same thing!!! I kept thinking these dont look right - took a while to look back at Jo's pictures that I realized I did them backwards......... wonder how many others made the same mistake.. Just think -- our quilt will be UNIQUE !! LO

  2. I love it! I like them. I had to look a minute before I read your text to figure out why they looked like that... At first I thought it was a contrast issue. I sure am glad I am not the only one who does things like that-I just now sewed something to the wrong side of a triangle.... Four times! I usually just turn off the machine and walk away for a while because cearly my head is not in the right place, better to cut my losses and begin again later. I am glad you finished them as is, first because I like them and second because it will make a great thing to chuckle at when you see them in the finished quilt. I think quilts that have a story are always more interesting than ones that go smoothly and perfectly from beginning to end!

  3. That is funny! You have me laughing. I might have done the same thing...but I had Jo's blog up on my computer and kept checking back as I was working on mine this morning. Need to go back now and do some more. This is a treasured day off from work, so better take advantage of it. Have to work tomorrow though. :(

  4. Well... I did that too, but I would sew only ONE side the wrong way....talk about a mess!!! I had to rip out and redo....PLUS my stars are NOT pretty like Jo's. I read what I did wrong was use a rectangle instead of a square...oh, well....20 of them are done so it is what it is!!! Your blocks will be fine!!

  5. I like them. I thought you were being an eager beaver and making some blocks of your own design until I read what you had written. They are most definitely keepers.

  6. You didn't make a mistake, you just made some wonky diamonds. :0) As far as crumbs go it's all good.

  7. WONDERFUL...go with the flow. That's what crumbing is all about. If you learned not to rip it out, you learn the best lesson yet. Sometimes when I make a block I truly hate I take the scissor and cut it in three strips. Then I use those strips to add on to other blocks. I personally think if you're crumbing, you never need a seam ripper!!
